FRENCH BOOKS AND FILMS
In the absence of NAFS events in July, various members have been keeping up their French through books and/or films. Here are a few examples.
EN CAS DE BONHEUR par David Foenkinos
Petit bijou de lecture pour cet été. J’ai beaucoup aimé la trame de l’histoire de Jean Claude et Claire : un couple à la dérive. Ils se trompent mutuellement, se font suivre par des agences de détectives. Le livre est plein de rebondissements et se termine bien. C’est un livre court et divertissant , idéale pour se changer les idées en été.
David Foenkinos est l’un de mes auteurs préférés, en plus il est très prolifique. Il y a quelques adaptations cinématographiques de ses œuvres comme : La délicatesse ou encore le mystère Henri Pick.

LES HEURES FRAGILES par Virginie Grimaldi
Dans cette histoire qui se déroule en France dans un cadre contemporain, une mère et sa fille, qui ne se comprennent plus, sont amenées à se retrouver face à leur passé. Entre émotions, secrets et espoir, l’autrice raconte une histoire touchante sur la famille et les liens qui résistent au temps. Un livre que je conseille fortement pour ses personnages attachants et son histoire émouvante, qui évoquent les liens familiaux avec beaucoup de justesse et abordent des émotions que nous connaissons tous.

ROSE DE DIARBEKIR par Corinne Zarzavatdjian
Well-researched historical fiction depicting the Hagopian family in Diarbékir at the end of the 19th century. Their peaceful life is increasingly threatened by the growing persecution of Armenians by the Ottoman leaders.
The family eventually take refuge in France but their teenage daughter Rose stays behind to help the vulnerable Armenians, particularly women and children. Fate takes her to Constantinople, where she ends up on the stage with the renowned French actress Sarah Bernhardt.
From 1894-96, up to 300,000 Armenians were massacred, in a sombre precursor of the subsequent genocide.
